Answers to common questions and how to get help.

Getting Started

How do I install Bright Sky?

Install it from the Chrome Web Store. Once installed, open a new tab — you'll be prompted to enter your city.

Does it work in other browsers?

Bright Sky is built for Chrome only. It may work in Chromium-based browsers (like Edge or Brave) but is not officially supported.

Weather & Location

How do I change my location?

Click the + button on the left side of the new tab page to add a new location. You can save multiple locations and switch between them from the same panel.

Where does the weather data come from?

Weather data is sourced from Open-Meteo, a free and open weather API. No API key is required and no account is needed.

How often is the weather updated?

Weather data is refreshed automatically each time you open a new tab, with caching to avoid unnecessary requests.

Scenes & Appearance

How do I change the background theme?

Click the scene selector button (the landscape icon) in the corner of the new tab page to browse and switch between theme packs — Classic, Nature, Magic World, Miniature Worlds, Baby Animals, and more.

Why does the background change on its own?

For themes that support it, backgrounds automatically match your current weather condition (sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy, etc.) and time of day (day vs. night). Not all themes have weather or day/night variants — some use a fixed set of scenes regardless of conditions.

What is Immersive Mode?

Immersive Mode lets the scene fill the entire screen. You can toggle between Immersive Mode and the full weather dashboard view from the settings panel. In either mode, clicking a location card opens a detailed forecast panel with more information.

Troubleshooting

The weather isn't loading.

The extension stopped working after a Chrome update.

Go to chrome://extensions/ and reload Bright Sky. If that doesn't help, try removing and reinstalling it from the Chrome Web Store.

My location isn't being found.

Try entering a nearby larger city, or include the country name (e.g. "Springfield, IL" or "Bath, UK"). The search uses Open-Meteo geocoding with Nominatim as a fallback.
